Laptop Review: Dell Inspiron 1545

Dell Inspiron 1545

I've had this laptop with me for over one-and-a-half year already, and I can still say that my Laptop is feeling as fresh as one-year-old laptop.

Here's why:

• It heats up badly (one-and-a-half year old fan), 
• Its battery, at power saver mode, can last up to 2 hours,
• And it occasionally crashes.
• Besides all that bad stuff, this laptop has only been reformatted once (because of my fault),
• Not much BSOD (Blue Screen of Death).
• Not much problems with other hardware.

Pricing:
Price before ranges around $400. But now it should go near $300. Check eBay, Amazon, or Dell for the exact price.
Video:
Compared to today's trends, this laptop is only good for watching movies and office work. Gaming is much a problem because it lags (but you can still play). Older games would work properly with this laptop, i.e. Warcraft III. Has a widescreen display btw.
Audio:
Good enough, though really not that loud to be a home theatre system.

Bluetooth (this is optional)
Webcam
Firewire port or USB 3.0 port

What it does have:
7-in-1 Media Card Reader
3 USB 2.0 Ports
LCD Port (I don't know what this is called.)

How to Get the Most of It:
Disable Windows Aero by Switching Your Current Theme to "Windows Classic". That should give you a better performance.
Disable Widgets and Dell Dock for better performance.
Defrag Monthly.
Update your firmware by visiting the Dell Site. Update softwares too.
To increase battery life, when the battery is full and the laptop is connected to the AC outlet, remove the battery.
Take care of your laptop. Make sure it doesn't heat up badly (I connected an external fan for cooling, choose the one that dissipates heat away).
Dim light display when not in use.
Love it like a friend. :)

Disclaimer: This is not a very, very professional review on Dell Inspiron 1545. This is my personal review on it. Don't take my heed if you don't want to. It's your choice.


Other notes: I still use the Windows Vista license given. Upgrading to Windows 7 would require you more of your hardware, thus decreasing your performance.
