Facebook Fix: Revert to the Old Facebook Chat! [via Scripts]

Facebook has been, what you call it, updating recently. Just weeks (more likely months) ago, Facebook has installed its video calling. That is, Facebook teamed up with Skype to provide a new way to chat. Along with this new chat is the change of the Facebook chat box.

So far my plan of tightening my own belt failed, as financial crisis came and took all of my savings. In the wallet. Prices have increased, and so does the times I ride a jeep going to places in UP Diliman. Anyway I suddenly found this urge of keeping and saving peso bills, new and those that are limited.

Tropical Storm Falcon

June 24 - 25. Friday and Saturday. The weather brought by the tropical storm Falcon poured water heavily in the University of the Philippines. What happened then is that classes were canceled on those days. Which means no Physics (and the recit quiz), no EEE 21, no EEE 34 which is not good as to what our professor said, and no EEE 13 which means we haven't started doing the Machine Exercise 1. Our professor in EEE 33 also scheduled an advance meeting on Saturday, but unfortunately the rain roared with great intensity. I don't really know whether the meeting happened or not, but more likely it didn't.

The weather brought a satisfying cold temperature suitable for hibernation. Yes, hibernation. I slept long with my blanket wrapped around me. No electric fan needed.

Person Review: Some other Professors I Had

In UP Diliman, there are a lot of professors to choose from. Mostly students try to avoid the terror ones, like Agapito, and find the uno-able ones. Uno-able means many students usually get a 1.0, the highest grade given, in the class, or it means that you won't have trouble with that class.

Compared to other students in UP, I'm still partly unexperienced, though, because I don't know which profs are terror and which are not. I soon know that when I let someone read my enlisted classes. Luckily I survived (and hope to survive) the previous school year. This school year, however, will be tough and I have to give my best.

Going back to the title itself, here are the professors I had in UP Diliman during the first year. Please note that this is my review and it is up to you whether you should believe it or not. Word of advice: ask a professional.

First Impressions: Enrollment, Class and Molave

June 14, 7:30 A.M. marked the start of my first day in class in UP as a sophomore. But before that:

I have been staying in Molave Residence Hall, my "now" dormitory since June 9. That was enrollment back then.  Accompanied by my mom, we entered the dorm. Note that it was rainy back then and we were too tired to do much.

Freebies. I already told you about them. I LOVE THEM. (okay, I'm repeated that again.) Before I found freebies from this site I mentioned before, I found this site. I was using Google's search engine to look for freebies. And that site appeared first in the results.

Kalayaan Batch 2010-11

Tomorrow will be the last day of my stay in Kalay. Just a while ago was the last day Erlinda's (Kalay's current concessionaire) will be serving food, and I haven't eaten there for the day. It's not that I'll Erlinda's, it's just that it was their last day. No matter. I miss Kalay more than I miss Erlinda's. I wish I could stay longer, maybe just for more than a while, but I couldn't. Tomorrow all my things will be removed from the dorm. I mean I'll move them out. Unfortunately I don't know whether I could put them in my next dorm Molave, so I'll put them to my friend's  boarding house. Thanks for letting me leave my stuff there.

[Freebie] Kaspersky Security Suite CBE 11, and How to Permanently Change It to English

It's been almost 9 months now since I've been using Kaspersky Security Suite CBE 10. CBE is ComputerBild Edition, thus a special edition. It is almost similar to Kaspersky Internet Security 2010. Some people distributed the CBE installer and thus, everyone can benefit from it.

Days ago, Kaspersky Security Suite CBE 11 was released to the internet. Again, people distributed the CBE installer, and so do I. I tried it, but the problem was the language was in German. And when I try to do the registry hack that changes it to English. A pop-out appears saying you need to reinstall the program. Disturbed because I can't read German, I reinstalled back to Kaspersky Security Suite CBE 10.

And now, thanks to Raymond from Raymond.CC, he and his team (if ever he does) found a way to permanently change it to English. He experimented with the installer using another program and boom! (Well it's just a boom, I don't know what to write next). I installed Kaspersky Security Suite perfectly and it's in English.

Feature Facebook Trick: Facebook Photo Zoom (Firefox/Chrome Extension)

Update: May 17, 2011: Facebook Photo Zoom allows you to disable "Theater Mode" in Facebook.

Let's say you're checking your Facebook News Feeds and you found some of your friends tagged in photos or you found someone posted pictures in an album. For example, my friend (who was playing Mousehunt by the way) caught new mice in the game and so new photos were posted in his album. Like this,

 I would really like to look at the picture closely without having to open a new tab or without having to click it then watch it. Now I would just need to hover on it and voila! The picture is zoomed for a better look.

It's been a while now since I've been clicking at IncraseBux, a known paying PTC site. Compared to NeoBux (although I stopped clicking at NeoBux because of an IP Problem), IncraseBux gives a fair amount of clicks and earnings. Their admin, who has been very witty about getting a win-win-win for them, advertisers and investors, gave a pretty much complicated but great way to earn money. Just a while ago I started cleaning out one of my e-mail's inbox. It started out as around 1200+, the last of the unread message was on February 14, 2011. Most of those e-mails where from Facebook, and so rather reading each one one by one I used "Select All" and "Delete". That deleted twenty-five messages at a time so I would need to do that more than 48 times.

While deleting the messages in my inbox, I read a message about a backlink to my previous EcoSelf blog in Friendster. Not just one but maybe 6, more or less. They linked about my blog entry called The Malicious Text Scam which talks about me insulting a texter for his TRYING-HARD scam. There was just a big problem to his scam: it was written unprofessionally, there were many wrong punctuations, and it's just wrong. You couldn't scam someone like this. You have to be the opposite of that: professionally, believable, and grammatically correct. It's not that I'm teaching you how to scam, it's that I'm teaching you not to scam because you failed.

Basement Boy

It's been two days since I moved out from my room. I had to go up and down 3 flights of stairs 5-7 times just to move all my things. I was very exhausted and I was very dizzy. I tumbled to my slant bed without taking my prescription. (Well actually I woke up around 1am and took them.)

Person Review: (UP Diliman) Kai Brynne Boydon, my Math 17 Professor!

Here is my personal review on my math 17 professor Kai Brynne Boydon. She's one the best math professors I ever had.(though Sir Agapito was also one of the best, you have to give him your best in order to pass)

Notes before you continue: This is a personal review based on personal experience. She was my professor during First Semester 2010-11. Everything is subject to change with time. Who knows maybe she'll be teaching at a different university. For now she isn't because she's taking up Master's degree. (and more probably Doctorate degree)

Back at the Dorm

It was a very tiring day coming back to the dorm, but before that, I had the times of my life. (No they're not the best, but they're not the worst either.)

There was one day during my stay in my mom's hometown, it was my cousin's graduation. (And also my other cousin/relative/IDK's graduation, they share the same graduation.) Unfortunately she didn't have any medal (my other cousin did) but at least we were there to watch them. Their valedictorian (I don't remember her name and I don't know her, but she's a close friend of my cousin) gave quite a touching address. There was just some problems, first it was really long (you don't really want to make your audience bored, do you?) it took approximately 1 hour and a half, and second it was too personal. (It's like she shared her whole life with it. By the way she commented on every person she met, well mostly.) Nonetheless it was HER speech and she owned the floor that time. The program ended around 7pm already after that.

It's been two days since my stay in my mother's hometown. Nothing much has happened. Facebook. DotA AI Fun (which isn't really fun). Lie down. Do nothing. Really.

Hey guys I'm back! Sorry to keep you waiting for more of my blog posts. I've just finished with all my projects for this semester and right now I am in my mother's hometown which is eight hours of bus travel from Manila. That was very tiring because I felt like being an insomniac. I couldn't get much sleep with the bus especially because the bus was bouncing up and down and to the left and to the right. After I and my mom arrived we had a really long sleep which was really 3 sleeps combined as one. Now that I'm fully awake I began testing the SmartBro if HSDPA(High Speed Data Packet Access) exist. Fortunately there was but signal strength is two bars.

Facebook Fix: Clear Chat History on the New Facebook Chat; New Facebook Feature: Facebook E-mail!

Facebook has now added new features to its site. Here are some of the newly implemented features:

• You can now tag people in a comment. When someone tags you a notification will popup saying "*Friend Name* mentioned you in a comment..."
• Comments are now easier to post. Rather than clicking reply you'll just have to press Enter. To enter a new line in the comment simply press Shift+Enter.

Tsunami in Japan

Just recently, March 11, 2011, 2:46pm (JST) an 8.8 (or 8.9 to some sources) magnitude earthquake hit the Pacific Ocean nearby the Northeastern coast of Japan, creating a tsunami alert for Japan and other neighboring countries.

The earthquake and the tsunami brought devastating damage on Japan. According to the news, 200 to 300 bodies were found on the coast of Sendai. More than 500 were missing and more than 700 people injured. Fires were reported as number of buildings and houses collapsed. Subway and train stations were halted. It was report that the height of tsunami was around 6 to 10 meters above ground, relatively larger compared to the waves hitting the Philippines which was less than a meter.

Dealing with Pointers and Files on C

I had this machine exercise on my EEE11 class, and boy, I am dealing with file I/O and pointers. Our lecture professor had discussed a little about pointers, and for the past two meetings we hadn't had a lecture class. Our lab instructor wasn't there last week, and so she gave us the machine exercise which will be checked this coming Tuesday.

Since I had no idea about opening files in C programming I had to do some research from my notes and my friends. Luckily they answered 2 out of 3 parts of the problem. The last one, well they'll be needing more help. After my research and coding I was able to finish all three parts, but I don't like the way I solved part three.

If you haven't got the idea yet, Google is my favorite and recommended search engine. I use Google simply because I find it faster to search in the Internet. Pages load really fast in Google, unlike some search engines which loads many things. Google also have many sites stored in its cache. Even my blog is easier to be found in Google than other search engines. And that's why the word "Google-ing" was born.

Well not literally slipping off but spending off 500 peso bill. As a student in the Philippines, 500 pesos is a big deal. For an average guy, 500 pesos is worth a week allowance. And that's too much for me, especially when a supposed-to-be 1 week allowance turns-into-a 1 day expenditure. Not just that, I more than often spent 500 pesos in 1 day. And I don't like that feeling of losing so much.

Facebook Fix: Show Posts from Everyone to your News Feeds

Have you ever wondered why people aren't commenting on your posts, or why suddenly you have become "invisible" to other people. Have you also wondered why the people commenting on your posts are the same people commenting on your other posts, or why some people died because he thought nobody cared about him when he was posting sad comments in his page? Well, here's the reason why:

Facebook has implemented a new setting in your feeds which lets you only see posts from friends or pages you recently interacted it. For example, you interacted with people A everyday and just a month ago with people B. Surely you would likely see posts from people A in home feeds and rarely see posts from B. I think Facebook implemented this setting as default so that their servers won't be overloaded with you receiving feeds from everybody.

There are two ways to fix it, though I would recommend the latter one rather than the former:

Just recently, I was browsing through my Facebook account because a while ago, I deactivated my Facebook account and now after reactivating all my groups disappeared. Reviving Childhood Games

The thoughts about reviving childhood games started days ago when France and I were eating at Erlinda's. "I had this weird imagination," I told him. I sometimes incorporate games to my life using my imagination. For example, from the game Jazz Jackrabbit 2, a 1998 PC game, I would imagine having a "Sugar Rush" (in jazz2, you become invulnerable to damage and would seem to move faster for twenty seconds) whenever I feel like moving fast. France seem to remember about Jazz Jackrabbit, because he played Jazz1 and Jazz2 when he was still in grade school. From that moment on, we talked about those really old games.

My class in Physics is already in torque and rotational kinematics. Just a while ago she told us to try to explain this kind of "phenomenon" to an ordinary high school student. Sleep: Most of It

Sleep. Oh that's a very, very big problem here in our dormitory. Most of the residents sleep really late. Some sleep around eleven, but most sleep way beyond twelve o'clock. I admit, I'm part of the late sleepers, and I wish to change that. There are just some things that do prevent me from sleeping early. This is one.

I must say, sleeping late really shifted my biological clock. Every day in the morning I feel really sleepy, at night I feel alive and alert. Most of my classes starts around eight-thirty, so there's really not much of a problem. But still, I do want to change my sleeping habits.

In our dormitory in UP Diliman there hasn't been an internet connection accessible near our rooms Update Jan. 28, 2011: Dilnet is now available at almost every room, just find the nearest router to your room. People here  have two ways to connect to the internet: Go downstairs to the lobby and use wi-fi to connect through Dilnet or get a prepaid modem. I myself connect to the internet through a SmartBro plug-it (Modem: ZTE MF627). SmartBro is oftentimes slow especially in the late morning or in the afternoon. Luckily this internet speed test I took went faster than usual.

While on my way out, I've had this unfriendly-like and arguing-like conversation with a good friend about Internet Blogging. He really said he doesn't like to read blogs (I'm not sure, it could be that he DOESN'T read blogs at all). It's not because he doesn't want to read personal things (or even non-personal things), but because of its credibility. "Trust", I think, is a very big word for him, and people who just post anything in blogs aren't trustworthy. Even the whole  most parts in the Internet, like Wikipedia, isn't credible enough for him.

Stealth mode allows you see your friends who are online without going online. This method requires you to add the Facebook Application. I myself don't use this anymore because I have a different method. :)

Internet Connection Problem

I live in a dorm inside UP, and internet is definitely a big problem to me. I already suffered from Dilnet, UP's Internet Service Provider because not only do I not browse the Internet freely, but also do I not connect to it. You see, in order to connect to Dilnet, you must also connect to their dorm proxy which I think allows a few users to connect. I'm not quite sure about this, but Dilnet did give me that kind of problem. Frustrated, I use a SmartBro USB Modem.
